about intervarsity

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
at George Mason University

Picture
We are a multiethnic witnessing community that engages every corner of campus with the love of Jesus. We are not just at George Mason, but are a part of a National movement.

InterVarsity began in 1877 at the University of Cambridge in England, where Christian students met to pray, study the Bible, and be witnesses on their campus.  Later they joined with groups at other universities to form the British Inter-Varsity -- the name signified fellowship "between the universities".  In 1928, the movement spread to Canada, and ten years later, from Canada to the United States.

Today InterVarsity chapters minister to over 650 campuses nationwide--striving to reach the whole campus, from freshman to faculty, from the athlete to the Greek to the artist. We believe faithful students influence people, ideas, and structures of the university and ultimately the world.

Our national vision is to see students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed and world changers developed.

The purpose of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA is to establish and advance at colleges and universities witnessing communities of students and faculty who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord: growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture and God's purposes in the world.
